Amara is the name given to 'Paradise' in the ancient African legends of Abyssinia (today's Ethiopia).
Retreat comes from the Latin word 'retrahere' and means ‘to pull back’.
With our Retreats package we invite you to pull back to a place of Paradise.
Expansive grounds of wild nature interspersed by indigenous gardens, coupled with spacious yet cozy wooden buildings, make Amara a beautiful base to hold any Retreat of your choice. Fresh air, flowing mountain water and tranquility set the scene for your special event.
The Retreats package sleeps a maximum of 8 people and is ideal for yoga retreats, wellness workshops, movement -, body- and healing-workshops of many modalities, as well as spiritual and metaphysical retreats of various natures.
It includes the exclusive use of all 3 cottages, a separate facilitators studio, as well as the gorgeous venue building overlooking the fresh water dam and natural swimming pool.
During your retreat, the venue building will most likely form the heart of your indoor space.
It is comprised of the dining area, Heron Hall, interlocking kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a massage/treatment room, a wood fired sauna, as well as the pool area with a large wooden deck, loungers and outdoor fire pit.
The accommodation is spread out over 3 sunny chalets, built in a semi circle around the venue building and dam, all set to maximise the expansive views; the buildings are about 30 metres apart from each other.
Rates:
R4,800 per night all inclusive for 8 adults on self-catering basis
R6,400 per night all inclusive for 8 adults on self-catering basis, during peak season

Heron Hall
Heron Hall is a magnificent empty space of 66 square metres (6 x 11m) with

- a fire place for chilly winter days;
- perfect as a yoga or movement space,
- Meditation hall,
- Circle space gathering area,
- or any set-up of your choosing
Interlocking kitchen
- conveniently placed to serve out to the dining area or into the hall;
- fully set-up for self-catering for 8-14 people;
- has all the modern conveniences such as fridge, freezer, gas hob & oven, dish washer, double sink, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, dishes, crockery & cutlery;
- a functional space for any chef to work his craft
Massage/Treatment room
- Cozy 2 x 3m room that is easily kept warm to relax into any treatment given
- massage table and crystal lamp set-up
- towels available as per optional extras
Extra Ladies & Gents bathrooms
- conveniently located next to the treatment room;
- easily accessible from the hall;
- both have toilets, basins and showers
Natural swimming pool
- filled with fresh flowing mountain water, it's a treat on hot summer days;
- the gradual slope towards the deeper end makes for easy entry after the heat of the sauna
Wooden deck & fire pit
- elegantly set up to flow from the venue building out onto the large wooden deck,
- with loungers to soak up the sunshine;
- and a round stone fire pit, which lets you gather around an open fire and tell stories under the starry African sky
The Cottages
- sleeps 8 people spread out over 3 chalets
- all have twin beds,
- private bathrooms,
- as well as a cozy lounge and covered veranda for private down time
- towels, linen, dishwashing liquid & body soap provided
